The Condition Of College Sports
There’s a part of me that really likes college sports even more than professional sports. But as I see new violations every day (USC, Michigan, Ohio State, Boise State, North Carolina, Auburn and Oregon (allegedly; both from the NCAA champ game), and today Oklahoma) there is a part of me that just cannot embrace them.

about wearing skirts everyday (with shorts underneath because WHO remembers to keep their legs shut?), about knowing no one and yet seeing the same people every week, about sun on your skin and on your face and lightening your hair, about never brusing your hair and the feeling of it falling all…
This is brilliant and beautiful.

This is me being at work and wishing that I was at home eating the potato salad, fruit salad, greek pasta salad, and peanut butter oreo pie that I spent my entire Saturday making.
HUNGRYYYY!!!!
The Spanish American War was in 1898. But in 1812, we fought the British. Perhaps you wanted me to write a book about what would have happened had we invented a time machine and taken the...

Reading Question:
As I read through all of Hemingway’s short stories, I think it is time for me to also read another history book. What is a cool, interesting historical event that I should read about?

On Saturday
I woke up in a tent and my brother was snoring and so I got up and went outside. It was six thirty and the whole camp was quiet. I sat near the fire pit and read Hemingway; stories of Africa and other places and the people of those places. People started to wake up around me. The man in the next camp got up before his family and made a fire and I could hear it burning. After a time, my family also...

I Am Going To The Upper Peninsula Today
The internet barely works up there, and I am excited. Makes you feel more alive.
Things that do work: sailboats.

NFL Sunday Ticket
I’ve always wanted it.
Now I think I’m gonna get it.
Provided there is football, of course.

My Computer Didn't Die!
Edit: It works again! Who knows.
It won’t write letters anymore. Pretty crucial to my making a living and all. Only the numbers will work.
I am on Britt’s computer now.
This is potentially very bad.
It was strange. I was typing away. Then I watched a video of some cars sliding around on the ice in Portland on Break.com. It was comical. Then the computer would not type anymore.
I...

So I Guess I Have To Root For the Hawks Tonight?
That way we can play the 5 seed and not the 2 seed. Or should I root for the Sharks so we can get revenge for last year and stomp them even when they have home ice?

Dear Steve:
How many people did you give this copy of MS Office to? I am in the Barnes and Noble at the Woodland Mall and it is telling me I cannot use Excel because someone already is. I don’t know anyone here. I looked around at everyone like a creep to see if I did, too.
Love, Jon.

Is Your Wife Cheating On You? What Do You Do?
So I have to write these articles about people who cheat on their spouses in marriage, and I’m googling it to get some ideas. Thankfully, I came across this gem on Yahoo! Questions:
Guy’s Question (paraphrased): I just found out that my wife is cheating on me. What do I do?
Someone’s Answer (edited for grammar):
My advice: Mount her like a tiger. I saw it on animal planet. It...

The Dumbest Generation
“With Myspace, Youtube, teen blogs, and Xbox added to Tupac and Brittney, Titanic and Idol, the Internet doubles the deluge of images and sounds from movies, TV, and radio. Lengthy exposure to finer things is the best education in taste, and it’s hard to sustain it when the stuff of pop culture descends so persistently on leisure time. There is no better reprieve from the bombardment...

Just Put Down The Greatest Centsports Bet Of All...
All my money on the Oldham soccer game tomorrow morning, on the under.
The line is 25.
It’s going under.
Anyone want to play Trivial Pursuit later?
Because I would. When I finish this dumb work.
If you type "I want to punch" into Google
the fourth option, and the first option that is a person, is Philip Rivers.
Perfect.

Another Shameless Plug For My Writing Blog →
fictionandstories:
There is a thing about writing which is this: you must wait and see what it becomes, for it is a thing of discovery. I do not mean ‘must’ in the sense that I am giving direction. I mean it in the sense that you are gripped by this thing, by the desire to see what it can become and how the words…

They came over the hill and looked down on the country before them where it lay desolate and barren like a land forgotten. Jacob kept his hands in his pockets and stood next to the wagon that held his father’s body and knew then a thing that was as old as the earth: when a man’s father died, the…
Hey everyone;
After talking to Bill about how great I am, I’m...
Sometimes when I am standing outside and looking at the wide reach of the sky I like to think of another man one thousand years ago doing the same thing and I wonder if his feet were in the same place and if he tilted his head the same way and what he was thinking and how the world looked when he stopped looking at the sky.
Sometimes there is nothing like waking up, making coffee, and finishing a short story.
A Writing Hut
I want to build a writing hut. It can be small; it only needs to contain a desk, a bookshelf, and a coffee maker. I will build it so that it looks like a log cabin and maybe one wall will have a fireplace and a mantle for coffee mugs and I will put it in my back yard behind some trees once I buy a house. It will have a big soft leather chair and a computer for when I feel like writing essays or...
